About the GreenTeam
The GreenTeam is a volunteer corps of New Yorkers pitching in to reduce the ecological footprint of public events in parks. The GreenTeam supports the NYC Parks Department by collecting recyclables and providing environmental education at the agency’s annual free large festivals and special events, ranging from Adventures NYC, an outdoor sports extravaganza, to Pumpkin Festival, a fall harvest celebration in Central Park. Since its inception in 2009, the GreenTeam has helped increase the amount of recyclables collected at Parks events by more than 600% and has educated hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers about environmental issues in NYC.
