to help out as Recycling Volunteers at the Parks Dept.’s annual fall
harvest celebration—Pumpkin Festival—on Saturday, October 29th
in Central Park! Last year at Pumpkin Festival, the GreenTeam broke a Parks
record by collecting 60 bags of recyclables. Help us make history again

Recycling Volunteers will:

  • Work in pairs and small teams to collect
    recyclables throughout the event.
  • Teach event visitors about recycling and
    other environmental programs in New York City.
  • Compete to win prizes for the most
    recyclables collected at the event.

Join NYC Parks for Pumpkin Festival, New York City’s annual celebration of the fall harvest season in leafy Central Park!

Taking place on Saturday, October 29, Pumpkin Festival takes the very best traditions of the autumn season and offers them all for FREE! Activities will include:

    • Fright Night at the Movies Haunted House–our spooktacular haunted house is back again this year and scarier than ever!
      • Catch a sneak peek of the Haunted House
        on Friday, October 28th from 5-7pm!
    • Pumpkin Patch – kids take home a free pumpkin!
    • Arts & Crafts – including pumpkin decorating!
    • Marionette Performances by Puppets in the Park
    • Walkabout Characters
    • Pumpkin Decorating
    • NY Rangers Road Tour & Slapshot Booth
  • Obstacle Course
  • Live Entertainment

All events are free! Event is rain or shine!

Please note that the lines for the Haunted House and Pumpkin Patch may close early. While supplies last!

full swing and we’re preparing to welcome nearly 40,000 people to Prospect

Park to partake in all sorts of wonderful snow activities. Read more about the

counting on our trusty GreenTeam volunteers to take our recycling and education
program to new heights.

Interested in being a composter in New York City? This is the perfect opportunity for you!

Who: NYC Compost Project in Brooklyn
What: An 8-week (18-23 classroom hours) course that teaches the fundamentals of creating a composting system so that you can impart your new knowledge to others in your community
Where: Brooklyn Botanic Garden
When: The first session is on March 17, 2011 and it runs through May 12, 2011.
Who: Anybody who is interested in environmental issues, gardening, community development, activism, or volunteering.
How: 1) Apply by February 18, 2011 2) Hear back by March 4, 2011 and 3) Classes will be held on class dates are: March 17, 24, 31, April 7, 14, 28, May 5 and 12, including two field trips in May. The course material fee is $40, and limited scholarships are available.
